Five systems.
One uneasy routine.

The official How to Play video organizes Elderfield into five connected systems. This page explains that model without turning one player's route into a required walkthrough.

The short version

Keep the farm moving, explore for materials, build a useful home, maintain relationships, and prepare before entering dangerous areas. Elderfield lets these systems feed each other; the safest beginner plan is to avoid treating any one of them as the whole game.

The five-part structure below follows this official overview.

Farming builds the daily foundation.

The official tutorial describes the basic loop as planting seeds, watering crops each day, and collecting mature crops. Some crops may move when ready, and the farmland can attract dangerous visitors from the nearby woods.

Ranch buildings support different animals, while processing farm and ranch products can raise their value or turn them into cooking and crafting ingredients.

Keep the scope honest: exact crop times, prices, animal yields, and scarecrow percentages are not treated as official facts on this overview page.

Gathering supplies every other system.

Mining

Produces ores for equipment and tool progression, but each swing may bring hazards or attract creatures.

Fishing

Provides food, possible income, and unusual catches. The official video directs beginners toward Lakefront through the Sewers.

Foraging

Turns exploration into plants, mushrooms, and materials found beyond the farm.

Leave an area when food, equipment, or other supplies no longer support the risk. “One more room” is not automatically the best use of a day.

Your home is more than decoration.

The official overview confirms indoor decorating, additional furniture, possible expansion, and ways to improve the exterior. Treat the home as a planning base rather than assuming every crafting station or storage rule works the same in every location.

Community progress rewards regular attention.

Elderfield supports friendships, romance, marriage, seasonal festivals, smaller calendar events, and a daily news broadcast. Talk to residents as part of normal trips through town instead of postponing every social system until later.

Detailed gift limits, schedules, heart thresholds, and marriage steps belong in the relationship and character guides after their current-version evidence is complete.

Food and equipment buy room to retreat.

The official tutorial calls food the most important survival resource and connects ingredients to farming, fishing, foraging, animals, and processing. It also presents forging as the reliable route to stronger equipment.

  1. Keep enough ingredients for meals instead of selling every resource immediately.
  2. Review weapons and clothing before entering a dangerous area.
  3. When supplies run low, leave before the next encounter removes that choice.

These are official high-level recommendations, not a claimed universal build or exact inventory formula.

What this sample does not claim.

  • A mandatory day-one route or a single correct difficulty.
  • Exact crop, combat, shop, relationship, or death values.
  • That Demo-era steps are unchanged in the full release.
  • That every community wiki table is complete or patch-current.
  • Any first-hand verification by this site.
